About Us

Marvin C. Delaney  - High School

Know that at University Park Academy in Houston, Texas, we are passionate about helping people graduate high school. The program has spread through venues including Houston Independent School Districts' Alcott Elementary, Attucks Middle School, Jones Vanguard, and finally, to its current home, South Park Baptist Church.

Our History

The history of our school began when Marvin C. Delaney sold his Ford F150 pickup truck for $2,400 in 1978, and purchased four RadioShack® TRS80 computers. Once he had the four computers and other supplies, he started teaching basic computer programming to the community.

The program began to grow. Houston Community College recruited Marvin as an introduction to computer technology instructor. During the years from 1982 to 2002, he taught classes at night while he still worked at the Shell™ Oil Company.

Christopher Millet - High School

Under Irene Pocorello at the Milby campus, he instructed computer operations on an IBM 4341 Mainframe Distributed Processing system. He discovered that the campus and Shell Oil Company used the same equipment. Thus, today, the Milby campus is designated as a Petrochemical Technology Campus.

We understand the importance of computer skills. Marvin, Mrs. Jackson, and Coach Elmer Lucas incorporated computer essentials into the curriculum to ensure students would be prepared for college and life beyond school.
